The Qaliti Covenant

Preamble

We covenant together as Ethiopians and as freedom-loving, truth-seeking, compassionate  people of diverse national backgrounds living in many parts of the world, to advance the cause of human rights, justice and the rule of law and to work together in harmony to free the political prisoners and prisoners of conscience at Qaliti prison, fully cognizant of the fact that you, the prisoners at Qaliti, are the symbol of a widespread, non-violent fight for the institutionalization and respect for many of the fundamental tenets and rules of democratic societies.
 
In furtherance of this Covenant, we shall perform:

Acts of Justice

We will speak out in every forum, assembly, meeting place, use all available electronic media to bring attention to the dire situation of injustice and suffering of the political prisoners, and prisoners of conscience in Qaliti prison and elsewhere in Ethiopia. We will demand their immediate and unconditional release, justice and an end to serious human rights violations.

Acts of Truth

We will work cooperatively and collaboratively to tell the truth about the conditions of imprisonment, the false charges leveled against the prisoners, and about the widespread human rights violations that have resulted in the suffering and death of tens of thousands.

Acts of Love
We will undertake our efforts with love towards all and with malice towards none. Our sole purpose is to compassionately contribute to the restoration of the dignity of the Ethiopian people.

Acts of Compassion
We will work together to support the Qaliti prisoners, their families and supporters by providing moral and material support in every way that we can.

Acts of Devotion
We will pray for the safety, health and well being of the prisoners of conscience and political prisoners in Qaliti prison, and others upon whom has been brought extreme suffering through the egregious and widespread systematic repression.

Acts of Leadership
We will work with international human rights groups, NGOs, and others, in seeking the release of the Qaliti. Prisoners, and contributing to the monitoring, exposure and eventual cessation of human rights violations. .

Acts of Peace
We will work, using all legal and non-violent means, to secure the release of the Qaliti prisoners, promote reconciliation, and respect for democratic and human rights norms.
